Baby Time

Or more accurately, baby busy. Our daugher Adelyn was born on March 9th. Yes, that was nearly 3 months ago now and I haven’t written a single word about her on here. I could give some long, elaborate excuse about how much time it takes to be a (first-time) parent but words could only tell part of that story. We’ve gotten a lot more slack about it recently but for the first 3 weeks or so, Ames and I recorded every single feeding and diaper change with an iPhone app called Baby Connect. I’ll just let this chart serve as my excuse for not posting.

Process of Sublimination

This post turned out a bit longer than I intended. To summarize, I’ve tried several text editors out over the last few months and recently fell in geeky love with Sublime Text 2. It’s a truly amazing new text editor that’s available for OSX, Linux & Windows. Now, on with the story.
In the Beginning… I believe it was the Summer of 2005 when I tried out TextMate for the first time. After a few minutes of playing with it’s project drawer, tabs, regex find, snippets and column select features I was very happy. No more bloated applications from a certain software suite or sub-par minimalist editors. TextMate was a simple, innovative, powerful tool that helped me write a lot of code with very few distractions…

Ten Old Things Project

In this age of planned obsolescence it’s easy to justify purchases that we know will have a limited life span. The days of searching for the longest-lasting, most efficient or most dependable solutions to our problems have been quietly replaced by a quick glance at some best-selling or highest review metrics. If a new version comes out or a better solution comes along, we’re far too quick to discard and repurchase. Regardless of whether or not this is a global trend, it’s certainly true of my own purchasing history – Hello there, Apple products. In an effort to combat this tendency toward consumption and waste, I started thinking about the things I own that I wouldn’t want to trade or upgrade.
